Ostinato in Year 4

Monday 27th April | 1 comment

Last week in 4GK, the children were listening to, copying and creating their own ostinati. The children especially enjoyed listening and clapping along to the rhythmic ostinato that occurs throughout Queen’s track We Will Rock You. Then the class learnt the melodic ostinato that is heard in the song before putting the two parts together to create a class orchestra and choir simultaneously!

Then the children thought of ostinati that occur in other popular songs, identifying those that are heard in Pharrell’s Happy and Sam Smith’s La La La, before creating their own rhythmic ostinati which the whole class joined in with.

The real question is, though, what is an ostinato? Can you think of any more songs which could be added to our ostinato playlist?
